Statement on the May 14th Jefferson Avenue attack

May 14th began with a joyful celebration: the Autism Walk. Later that day, we were consumed by grief over the racist attack that occurred on Jefferson Avenue in the City of Buffalo. We can only imagine the anger and despair that the black community is feeling.

The Summit Center shares its profound condolences with the victims’ families and the courageous survivors. As an organization that promotes acceptance and belonging for all people, we condemn hatred in any form. Respect, optimism, and collaboration are some of our core values.

Going forward, The Summit Center will continue to reflect on this horrific tragedy. We will examine the ways we can become an even more inclusive organization, for our families and for our staff. Our hearts are open and we are here to listen.
