Claudia’s Story

When Tom and Mary Rosenecker were told their daughter Claudia might never walk or talk, their lives changed forever. They struggled with the realization that they wouldn’t see her run around the yard with friends or walk across the stage at her college graduation.

Tom and Mary have been part of the Summit family since Claudia started at Summit Academy in 2007. Claudia, now 20 years old, is developmentally delayed and non-verbal. She has a seizure disorder, uses a feeding tube for proper nourishment, and has many other health-related complications.

“Through it all, Claudia is a happy, cheerful, determined, and beautiful girl who is perfect in every way,” Tom said. “She is our angel.”

Tom says that their lives changed again when they found The Summit Center. Claudia worked hard with her Summit team, and the Roseneckers found new successes to celebrate. She learned how to unzip her coat, brush her teeth, and drink from a cup. Even more remarkably, Claudia learned how to walk and to communicate using her iPad.

“The night Claudia reached for her iPad and used it to say, ‘I love you, Daddy’ for the very first time is one we’ll never forget,” Tom recalled. “Summit has blessed our lives in amazing ways.”

Thanks to Make-A-Wish, the Roseneckers are currently visiting “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Cheers to Claudia and her family as they soak in the magic of Disney World!
