Respite

Whether it’s dinner and a movie or an opportunity to catch up on their laundry, The Summit Center’s respite care services are designed to give families a break from caring for their children with special needs.

The Summit Center provides an array of after school, Saturday, and in-home respite care services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

What makes all of Summit’s respite programs unique is our rigorous staff training and highly individualized understanding of the individuals we serve. In addition, high staff ratios ensure that your child receives high quality care and attention. Our programs offer structured leisure activities and provide social opportunities to make new friends.

  • No age limits
  • Additional behavioral or medical eligibility restrictions apply

Adult Respite

Beginning in July 2023, The Summit Center will offer a daytime respite program for adults (ages 21 and up) with developmental disabilities who are eligible for OPWDD services.

The program will operate three days per week (days to be determined) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Summit’s Respite Center, 75 Pineview Drive, Amherst. Participants may choose to attend as many days as they like to fit their needs. There will be one staff member for every 4-5 participants.

ACTIVITIES: In addition to leisure activities and peer interaction throughout the day, participants will take part in one group community outing per week. Our goal is to provide a positive environment with caring professional staff where participants can interact with peers and enjoy leisure activities during the week.

ELIGIBILITY: Participants must be eligible for OPWDD HCBS Waiver funded programs. Participants should have limited, if any, behavioral support needs and require no medication administered during program hours. They should also require minimal to no assistance with toileting.  If interested, please contact us so that we can learn more about you and begin the intake process.

TRANSPORTATION: Participants must provide their own transportation.
